What is salicylic acid?

Salicylic acid is made from willow bark extract or winter green leaves. It is described as a Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) and is the only acid that is oil soluble which makes it great for oily skin types or those suffering from acne.

Salicylic acid is an active ingredient designed to treat blemishes or ingrown hairs.

How does it work?

Salicylic acid exfoliates the skin by untangling the bonds holding dead skin cells to the skins surface.

Industry experts describe salicylic acid as  ‘pore exfoliator’ due of its oil soluble nature. This allows it to penetrate through the skin’s natural oils deeper into your skin.

It works as an anti-inflammatory due the fact that it is chemically similar to aspirin. Other benefits include antibacterial and antifungal properties.

What can you treat with salicylic acid?

If you are concerned about congestion under the surface of the skin, blocked pores or some of the conditions mentioned above?  Salicylic acid should be present in your skincare products!

Are you concerned about blemishes, acne or an uneven skin that resembles chicken skin (Keratosis Polaris)? Look out for cleansers containing salicylic acid.  Treatment masks are a great way to treat larger areas of skin.  The Dermaquest Dermaclear Mask helps to clear debris in the skin. This mask is calming and cooling on the skin making it an ideal solution for those with sensitive skin.

Do you have whiteheads or painful spots? You may be better off with a spot treatment that can be applied directly to your blemishes.  The Dermaquest BHA Spot treatment is a perfect solution for spots.  Containing 2% salicylic acid the BHA spot treatment uses a hygienic applicator making direct treatment more effective.

Serums are useful for helping to reduce oily congested skins.  They are a great solution if you are suffering from ingrown hairs.
